What can we learn from My Green School system?

Green is a color but, more importantly, it is a metaphor for anything and everything that supports and sustains life in all its infinite variety. The abiding aim of a Green School Model of education is to achieve a well-integrated, harmonious individual and society, and ultimately help build a better world. The book is translated into 10 different languages of the world, including Spanish, Catalan, Vietnamese, Japanese, Kannada, Thai, Italian, French, Lithuanian, and German with others underway. It is taught in schools, colleges, and universities in some countries.

Thakur S Powdyel is an educator by choice, conviction, and passion. His abiding interests include, inter alia, education as the noble sector, institutional integrity, national self-respect, gross national happiness, environment, and sustainable development. My Green School: An Outline reflects his vision of holistic education as an instrument for human and societal flourishing, and is translated into several languages worldwide. Often described as the most widely foot-traveled education minister in the world, Powdyel in tandem with his colleagues, moved Bhutan to be the first country in the region to achieve the MDGs for education and to receive the coveted UNESCO awards for Non-Formal and Continuing Education and introduced critical parliamentary legislation, specially dedicated to advancing the well-being of girls and women.
